Today asked the psych doc a med to combine with my Celexa 20 mgs to help my depression. He recommended I join a gym. I told I use my stairstepper 30 mins. p/d. What do you think of his suggestion of exercizing?

Did he recommend exercise for depression, weight loss, or both? If you already do 30 minutes a day and are still depressed I personally think you could still use something more for depression.
Thanks for this!

Maybe he recommended a going to a gym so that it would get you out of the house and meeting a people while also helping your physical self.

Exercise is really good for depression, I've heard. Can you get out into the fresh air and walk and things like that? I think that would be even better than just going to a gym.

I think k it's refreshing that a psychiatrist did not recommend an increase in medication first. I say his suggestion is worth a try.

BB I suspect I need more than exercise too. Unfortunately only 1 pdoc at the clinic My HMO only covers that one place Don't want to change coverage since I like it overall.
Possum I do stay indoors too much. Maybe once a week I could go to the gym.
Deejay14/ I think it can be refreshing too.
Traveling Lady Sometimes I do get out Well at least to dr appts. groceries shopping. Visiting my women friends. Seeing my boyfriend. and family too. TY all for your feedback.

You are in a rut doing the stairstepper every day. Stairstepper is a wonderful thing, but you need variety to challenge your muscles, your brain's balance center, and just your curiosity. The dr might have meant a well-rounded exercise program, plus, as has been pointed out, a reason to get out of the house, be some place on time, socialize with people if you go for a class.

If you do not want to do that, at least do HIITs on the stairstepper at home and not just steady state cardio.

Maybe your pdoc has a good point. And maybe he's a jerk. How is his behavior besides this last appointment?
