backstory; I was on Prozac for 2 years then randomly stopped working. Dr switched me to lexapro for 6-8 months and It wasn’t great. I was on Paxil the last month and hated It and my doc said prozacs worth another shot. Since doing my switch I feel like death. Headaches can’t eat, terrible anxitey, racing thoughts (1000 things at once) and just flashes of dizziness. Feel so down and don’t know what to do. I know it’s the transition period and I need to just fight thru It but will taking my Xanax help? I’m prescribed for as needed and take It once or twice a year. But I’m wondering if It will help me get thru this hump in med changes. I have been calling in at work because I can’t fucntion as well as I need to in my field of work. Does anyone know how long this lasts? I’ve been off Paxil for 10 days.

If your pdoc prescribed the Xanax and said you could take it as needed, I would try it. If you want, let your pdoc know what you're experiencing and confirm that you can take the Xanax. I have used benzos (Klonopin) to help during medication changes.

I agree. I take prozac, and I take xanax as needed. It helps with the anxiety for me, and the prosaic really helped my depression and ocd.

Quick question: Do you have a history of addiction? If so and you want my opinion be sure your doctor knows before you take any Xanax. Nothing in your thread suggested that you had problems with addiction, but it is an important point. If that is not an issues I heartily agree with the other posters that taking the prescribed amount of Xanax sounds like the humane and wise course of action. Another thing: Please tell me your doctor tapered you off the Paxil? If not maybe the negative symptoms you are experiencing are being pulled off of Paxil too quickly not any fault of the Prozac. That said, the Prozac may well Not work for you. It did stop working for you before. It seems like you have been looking for an anti-depressant to replace it for some time so why not continue that search? There are many others out there, no? Welbutrin? (I'm on that one.) Zoloft. etc. etc. In some ways I'm in the same boat, but not as intense. I tapered off Prozac for a reason of a personal nature and am more depressed. I've been thinking about asking my doctor about Pristiq. I hope something I've said can be of a little assistance. My heart certainly goes out to you in this your time of great difficulty. Blessings.
