I feel foolish for saying to someone on a different forum that schizophrenia just means that he needed to get out of his head more meaning therapy and understanding people at groups or simply friends. I sounded as if I was suggesting that they lived in their own world. And sounds like I was saying that it wasn't their illness but their own thinking. The doctors had them labelled with FOUR types of mental illness. I have heard of a dual diagnosis but four I am sceptical.

But I know that medication is compulsory along with therapy. Therapy can mean not just speaking to the professionals but music/art or quiet occupations like a hobby that's relaxing. Medication is needed long term. Voices and hallucinations require medication. I just wanted to give them some hope I suppose.

I still believe that the minimal amount of medication you can get away with is best. And that most people can get better even from the most serious of mental illness. That
the dosage should in time decrease. But like most things in life set backs can be expected.

Schizophrenia is not a split personality. Many believe this. But I realise now that delusions and psychosis can Sometimes result in needing medication for the long run or the person will not get "well." And mood disorders and some depressive illnesses need medication as well as therapy.

I have bi polar one so I share some symptoms of schizophrenia. It seems that there is a switch that once activated can only be treated with medication to correct the imbalance of chemicals. Like a physical ailment that cannot be reversed. My affliction cannot be cured but it can be managed to the point that I don't know it's there.
