So I was just put on Vilazodone by my pdoc today for my major depressive symptoms following some gene testing. I now know it has been out for a few years but I honestly had not heard of it until today. Just looking for any and all feedback from you all. Did it help, did it not help, side effects...etc.

Hi there.

I myself haven't been on it, but I have heard some feedback from those on it.

It is typically between 20 and 40 mg that vilazodone is tehrapeutic. One would hopefully taper up from a lower dosage, as that is better than simply starting at say 40 mg.

It does, like other antidepressants, take a few weeks (up to eight) to fully work.

Side effects- Nausea and vomiting can be one of them. Headaches are another I heard from some people online who had used, or are using it.

Thanks TicTacGo. My pdoc is titrating me up - 10mg for a week, then 20mg for a week and then 40mg going forward. Changing meds is nothing new to me as I have done it many times in the past 13 years so we'll see. I was on Vortioxetine (Trintellix) for quite a while but it just wasn't working for my MDD. I just did some gene testing for the first time and the results have steered us toward Vilazodone. Crossing fingers...again!

Just finished my 2nd week; 1st at 20mg. No specific plans to go to 40 yet but have appt. next week. Had a bad reaction to Latuda and/or Doxycycline that caused tremendous anxiety that is taking a long time to go away (more than a month). Waiting for the Viibryd to kick in hopefully soon.
Thanks for this!

Viibryd was great for me for a 3 months and then it stopped doing anything.
Thanks for this!
