My Psychiatrist recently put me on a dose of clonazepam before bed. I have a lot of nightmares and the doctor said to watch to see if my nightmares worsen.
Has anyone experienced nightmares or worsening of nightmares while taking this medication? Also if you take it at night before bed can it help with anxiety during the day? Thank You for any responses. |

I haven't noticed nightmares. Due to the long half life of klonopin its effects can last the following day.

I didn't notice any increase in nightmares from the clonazepam. I also take it during the day for anxiety, so I'm not sure how long the effects of a night time dose would last.

I have been taking K-pin for many years. Never had nightmares from it. My guess is that your pdoc is telling you to take it at bedtime to help you sleep? If you're taking it for anxiety, seems it would make more sense to take it when you're awake.

when my shrink started me on klonopin, it was 1.5mgs/night time, then .5 during the day. as i got used to it, it was 2mgs/day time, ambien at night. maybe there's some kind of long term strategy going on here?

no nightmares from Klonopin while on it, but...just warning you here, not trying to scare you...tolerance can occur, anxiety can be bad in between doses, and long term use carries risks of dependence and sometimes drug-induced depression and/or exacerbation of existing depression. blah. :-(

I had to stop it because of the depression factor.

Update,
I met with my psychiatrist Wednesday and he says that it can help during the day he doesn't want me sleepy during the day. But he's upping the dosage to see if it will help more. If it doesn't work after a couple of weeks then I can take one pill in the morning and once at night. He says it builds up in your system after you've been on it for a few weeks. Also, it hasn't made my nightmares worse. I will start taking the new dose tonight. |

Good Luck with the new dose. I am taking the same medication. It doesn't give me nightmares but when I get too hot sleeping in bed I have horrid nightmares.

I was on klonopin (clonoazepam) for 14 years. I took 1mg three times a day as needed for anxiety. I usually took my last dose an hour before bed because I have OCD and not taking it would mean 7-9 hours spent checking the doors to be sure they were locked and the alarm to be sure that it was properly set.
I never noticed any nightmares, but I was also on Ambien and Elavil to help sleep. I hope it helps you. |

I was on mine for 10 years. I had to stop because I was having mild short term memory problems. It was really hard for me to stop it. Took almost a year to taper down to nothing. Everytime I stopped it.. I couldn't sleep (sometimes as long as 24 hours or more.) and huge episodes of anxiety and OCD hitting very hard. This drug is a good drug but when it's time to let go it's very rough.
Kudos! |
