Is there a medication that can be taken on the spot for when you get obsessive thoughts that won't stop? Something that won't knock you out like xanax?

When a child’s emotional needs are not met and a child is repeatedly hurt and abused, this deeply and profoundly affects the child’s development. Wanting those unmet childhood needs in adulthood. Looking for safety, protection, being cherished and loved can often be normal unmet needs in childhood, and the survivor searches for these in other adults. This can be where survivors search for mother and father figures. Transference issues in counseling can occur and this is normal for childhood abuse survivors.

I take XANAX as needed. How about asking your doctor?

I found Valium to be less sedating than Xanax but it can build up in your system because of its half life. I’ve stopped the Valium now because I don’t want to be on it anymore due to memory issues but it worked for me in situations like you describe.

It's interesting that my doctor has never put me on valium. But it sure is popular.

All the benzos (including Klonopin), low-dose anti-psychotics can be taken prn (as-needed).

And there are some other medications like hydroxyzine that can be prescribed PRN that work for some people. Not everyone, but some.
