I'ld appreciate any feedback on how to use Seroquel successfully. The prescription label says take one each night. (I think they're 50 mg.) Well, since it seemed to help me through the nite, I decided to take it 2 additional times today. After the second time, I got light-headed when I stand up.

After several days of anxiety that felt awful, I was ready to swallow anything that might reduce that anxiety. I have a drawyer full of psychotropics prescribed by various providers over the last 2 months. I was taking Vistaril without much relief. I've got buspar, depakote, trazadone. I've popped each of them and stayed a nervous wreck. Last nite I tried Seroquel. That actually did me some good. I stayed asleep through the nite. (I'ld been waking up in the middle of the nite - like 3 or 4 a.m.) Plus I woke up feeling less anxious.

So I thought I hit gold. Then I figured, if a little is good, more might be better. If anyone thinks I should just follow doctor's orders, You're right. But desperation can override normal good sense. I told my prescribers yesterday that I was living in a nightmare of anxiety, since about Aug 2. So my prescriber recommends the Seroquel 50 every eve. Then he says I can tell him in 2 weeks how that's working out. No - I can't depend on med orders from someone who checks me every 2 weeks. Not when I'm in a living hell.

Can anyone tell me how Seroquel worked for them? How much did you take? Did it help with anxiety or insomnia? Did you have any adverse reactions?

Seroquel at the age of 26 gave me metabolic syndrome. I am now an insulin dependent diabetic. I am sure seroquel works wonders for people. For me it ruined my life. YMMV

What an awful outcome. I'm so sorry. It's a wonder this drug became so popular.

I have seen a lot of stuff on line about Seroquel being dangerous.

There's always a fly in the ointment.

I don’t really remember. I was 13 and on so many other things and going through so much stuff. I think I remember there being a 30 pound weight gain. I don’t know if it was just caused by that though. No one asked me about side effects from meds when I was a teenager. They just thought everything I did was caused by the diagnosis itself and didn’t think that it could possibly be the med.

Mountaindewed: Seroquel seems like a rather heavy duty drug to put a 13 yr old kid on. There must have been a lot that was wrong . . . and I don't mean wrong with you.

I know you know this, but I'm going to say it anyways, but messing around with meds on your own is never a good idea.

I take seroquel for anxiety - but I'm on a way higher dose, 800 mg / day. I find it's a good med for me, but yes it can make me light headed and dizzy. I remember one time when I accidentally took my morning meds twice, which was seriously dumb, so I wound up with 400 vs normal 200 mg of seroquel in my system. I was so dizzy I could barely stand up. I basically had to just go back to bed and sleep it off.

Paradoxically seroquel is more sedating at lower doses for most people, so if it's being prescribed for insomnia - overkill in my opinion, 25 - 50 mg would normally be an adequate dose.

I took too much Seroquel and can hardly walk straight.

If there is a good alternative, you should consider it. Low doses do appear safer, but diabetes is a real risk. My pdoc will not prescribe it.

Hugs.

Agree with Slitimage, dont mess around with dose.
It's important to remember that medications can take some time for it to work well. Keep taking your dose, or talk to your doctor about it.
It definitely can help with anxiety. Perhaps youd be interested in looking into safer things such as supplements. Inositol is good for anxiety however it is different for everyone and unfortunately can have side effects. Nothing life threatening I believe but it can cause things like headaches or even nice dreams or not so nice dreams. For me it made me too drowsy and combined with my seroquel it just makes me too drowsy in the mornings so I dont take it every night. But it does make me dream which I like.
Another vitamin is N acetyl cysteine that I find isnt too bad.
