I know the max dosage of Wellbutrin XL is 450 but I also know that some doctors prescribe over max dosage. So my question: is anyone on 600 mg of Wellbutrin?

I was so dumb. I was on 300 mg of Wellbutrin and it was working really well on my depression. I went on a weekend backpacking trip in July and forgot my medication . I did just fine without it. So I decided “hey my depressive episode is over! I don’t need it!” (They say medical practitioners make terrible patients!)

A month in my mood just crashed HARD. I restarted the 300 mg over Labor Day but I’m still not feeling the full effects of the medication so I’m going to call my doctor if not better in 1-2 weeks. For an increase. I guess I am kind of worried thinking ahead : what if the 450 doesn’t help me enough either ? Ughhh

I don’t know what the max dose is as far as what Is the “recommended “ max dosage verses the maximum safe dosage. There is a difference. For example I take Adderall XR and I have always taking the same dosage and it’s been 17 years. However the FTA or whomever says the maximum dose should be no more than 60 mg a day. The difference is it’s not that a higher dose isn’t safe it’s just that there aren’t any studies long-term on adults taking Adderall XR and they are basing it all on children. And very often certain patients have different issues like treatment resistant or rapid metabolizer. So they let Doctors play around a little bit because let’s be real those are the people with the medical degrees right?
However with Wellbutrin the issue is seizure risk. Even a regular dose of the beach and carries a seizure risk but the higher dose you go on the closer you are to your threshold. Once you go we on for 50 I forget the percentage but you’re a seizure threshold causeway way down.
