I can't take the side effects from the visteril anymore so today I took a valium at 7AM an unprescribed ativan at 10:30 and my second prescribed valium at 2:30. The combo worked well and my anxiety was the lowest its been in a long time and I did not have any side effects unlike the way I do with the visteril.
But is this bad to mix the 2? The ativan is only .5 mil and all 3 were spaced far apart. It really did help all my emotions and I only plan on doing it until I can get back to the 3 valium a day on Feb 11th.

I can't speak for specifically Ativan and valium, but I was prescribed klonopin and valium at the same time. The valium wasn't sedating enough to get me to sleep so I took that during the day and took Klonopin at night, this done in a hospital setting. I had no problems. Before I left the hospital they just switched it to all valium (3x a day like you) but a higher dosage at night because the klonopin was giving me double vision (which it does by itself/without valium anyways).
I'm no doc or pharmacist, but I would try and avoid it if possible but do what you have to do if it feels like an emergency. I know a couple days ago my akathisia was pretty bad so I broke out some old Klonopin when the valium was doing nothing. Other than feeling tired, nothing bad happened. Not something I would do on a regular basis though.

I am on two benzo's I take Klonopin in the evening and xanax as needed throughout the day. I find by taking the klonopin I need a whole lot less of xanax.

To be honest, benzos can be really helpful but there are a couple of huge things that arent good. You build up tolerance to them, so you need more. And theyre addictive and have long term side effects on your cognitive function.
The less you take, the better, especially if youre young. Other medications can work for anxiety too. However, sometimes they are needed. Mixing the two if they are prescribed, be careful. Unprescribed is not a good idea. Diazepam has a longer half life than lorazepam so it stays in your system longer. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask! I work in the UK so its a bit different than other places in the world but the drugs are the same and the safety and efficacy are still the same. In the UK we dont normally mix those two regularly. |
