I am thinking about asking my psych doc to prescribe me a psychostimulant like Vyvanse, Evekeo, or Zenzedi. I have no focus, which is the main reason I want to go on a stimulant. I have tried Sarcosine for NMDA receptor enhancement, and it seemed to be working, but I was still missing a critical element to my treatment. Perhaps I need to go on a traditional stimulant. While I was on Sarcosine, I still had no focus. If I read a chapter in my textbook for school, I would not retain a single thing I read. This is a concentration issue. And I plan on addressing it by asking my psych doc if he could prescribe me a stimulant. Any helpful input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

@185329 I am not an expert on meds and I do not know your diagnosis. Even if I did I would not be able to give reliable info.

When a friend had a problem that required medication, they asked the pdoc what their ideas were and it seemed to be a productive conversation. They ended up trying things under the doctor's guidance and eventually found something that helped.

I second listening to Jon Kabat-Zinn (or reading one of his books such as "Coming to Our Senses" or "Wherever You Go, There You Are.") I know it's not directly related to psychiatric medication, and I'm sure there are medical options out there for treating lack of focus and things like that (I'm also sure that a lot of people need that kind of medical support as well, myself included), but meditation and mindfulness (in addition to my psychiatric medication) has helped me a lot in my recovery and in life in general. Maybe it would be worth checking out a Jon Kabat-Zinn book at the library and seeing what mindfulness is all about? Just a suggestion - obviously you don't have to take it if you don't want to.

Oh and additionally, I know basically nothing about stimulants so I can't really help you there.

All I know about stimulants is they have side effects of their own, and that they can actually cause psychosis in some people (that's what my pdoc told me at least, one time).

I was prescribed 5MG of generic adderall in the afternoon and it seems to really help.
