The pdoc might be increasing the dose to find a therapeutic dose and not out of stubbornness. Just a thought.

I haven’t taken topamax but it was one of the drugs they considered for my migraines, I’ve since read about the link to cognitive dysfunction and even possibly dementia. I would refuse this drug with this knowledge and urge anyone on it to carefully research the long term effects.
It scares me what irreversible long term effects many medications can have. |

Every time I start and then stop Topiramate, word finding difficulty immediately disappears upon stopping. The dementia associated with Topiramate appears to be reversible, too.

Me too. I've been doing some reading about anticholinergic drugs and a possible link to dementia. There are a lot of them, prescribed for anything from allergies, motion sickness, Parkinson's, asthma, gastrointestinal issues, etc. Here is a list of some of them. https://www.healthline.com/health/anticholinergic I was worried initially, because I have severe respiratory allergies and take an antihistamine to be able to breathe. Fortunately, I'm on a second-generation one. It's the older ones that are considered problematic. A lot of drugs have anticholinergic effects, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of awareness. |

I had profound cognitive problems from Topamax as well as kidney stones. A medicine similar to it, Zonegran, never used to cause much problems until last year when I got a 5 mm kidney stone stuck in my ureter and got metabolic acidosis. I tapered off of it as safely as possible. I was on up to 400 mg of Topamax before I just threw the towel in. I hope you find something that works for you.
