My psych-MD appointment is this coming week, and I almost didn't make it. I'm on Lexapro 40mg, Trazadone 100mg, and Ativan 1mg. None of this seems to be helping the raging OCD - the constant cleaning, handwashing (my knuckles are bleeding as we speak), the arranging (I'll mess with miniblinds for an hour to make sure they are PERFECTLY straight, the two-hour grooming routine everyday that CAN'T get disrupted, etc. etc., the list goes on. As if things weren't bad enough, slight, occasional hallucination is getting into the mix. I get manic about the compulsions, and then after several days, I crash and can barely move. But, I still end up doing it all over. I could have spent the whole day before scrubbing the whole place with bleach, and the next day, it starts again. How do I explain all this to my MD? He usually concentrates on the depression/anxiety. I don't think he realizes how maddening this is. What meds are available that he might suggest? Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.

I am bipolar as well as OCD so I can kind of emphatize with you.
I take Anafranil for my AD as well as to help with the compulsive thoughts I get. It is working pretty fair to help with the OCD but the depression isn't lifted as much as I'd had hoped but I think some of that is circumstances too. My pdoc that I see now is a whirlwind when it comes to knowing about meds and he saw the OCD in me before it came out in the MMPI and started me on the Anafranil. Good luck and feel free to PM me anytime. Jbug

I have OCD and panic disorder. Zoloft has worked really well for me concerning both.

Clomipramine has helped a lot of people with OCD.

Thanks! So far I'm 10 days into a Lamictal/Seroquel mix, weaning off Lexapro, and off Trazodone. Too soon to tell, but keep your fingers crossed.
