My pdoc wanted me to take effexor SL for bipolar 2 depression and anxiety. But (see previous post) I was uncomfortable with it because I have a kidney transplant and must stay very hydrated at all times so the sweating that effexor causes worries me. He has now suggested wellbrutrin XL to address the bipolar 2 severe depression and anxiety. Anyone on this?

i take 300 mg and i think it's great, but you may want to be careful - it can cause seizures and from what i've read (i am not a doc) seizures are caused from imbalances in the brain and can be due to electrolyte imbalances (i.e. dehydration). i tried increasing to 450 mg but it made my eyes and mouth sooo dry. so i would try a low dose first to see how you handle that.

Hi there,
Wellbutrin in the medical world is known as the "skinny, sexy, horny" pill. Not bad side effects in my book!

It is not a good choice for anxiety however. It actually can increase anxiety symptoms and make it more difficult for folks to fall asleep. Effexor XR IS a good AD for both depression and anxiety.
Best,
Okie

Maaaann, I wish it had worked for me!! Even though I felt horrible while I was on it (had the worst depressive episode of my life plus I had horrible side effects from it) people kept telling me how great I looked. wellbrutrin XL - anyone on it

i was on wellbutrine for over a year...to help with panic disorder... and it helped until the insurance company sent me the generic instead of name brand... and i had a really sever reaction... after that i never got the anxiety all the way under control on it... even when i went back to name brand... so i went off and now the doctor put me on effexor xr... lyn

i had a bit of the anxiety at first - but just for a day or two. i had a few BAD headaches in the adjustment of doses, but after that no real problems (knock on wood). i assume the drug is working like it should because i haven't had any really weird or crazy side effects like some mentioned. i don't feel suicidal, i don't cry much, i'm not losing my appetite (though it keeps me from overeating most of the time)...so i can't report any real problems. it may be the case that some are more in tune with their bodies than i and are more sensitive to any little change. but so far so good for me! i'm looking to add a low dose of adderall for my ADHD, but looking for a good doctor at the moment..
