i am seeing a psychiatrist for the first time in a year on Tuesday. i have not been taking anything for my bipolar rapid cycling, social anxiety disorder, and GAD in over a year. it is a long story. i thought i could do it on my own. you know!!! Well i can't! I have been on so many different ones in the past i can't remember what helped or anything. Does anyone know of any medications that are really helpful for my problems. The only thing i am worried about is weight gain. Any advice would be great so i can have some kind of meds to talk about with her on tuesday. Sometimes i get so anxious and just say ok to whatever they prescribe to me, i don't want to do that this time. Thank you!!!

I was diagnosed bipolar 2 mixed episodes and rapid cycling about a month or so back. My doc put me on seroquel and then abilify. neither worked for me. Now i'm on Lamictal. He has me slowly working up to a higher dose. So far im having insomnia and very angry and bad mood changs. But, thats cause this med takes something like 4 or 5 weeks to get into your system. I'm also on clonozapem for anixiety and i find it doesnt work as well as lorazapem. I've tried the lorazapem a few times (mother on that) and it works much better. But doc won't change me on that one. Hope this helps.

thank you so much this helps more than you could possibly know. I should have just asked this question a long time ago instead of stressing and looking up every possible thing online,(doing that really just made it worse because there are so many to choose from and i just confused myself more) rapid cycling med question congrats on being sober for over 60 days. good job.

Guess it depends on what Bipolar you are...

If Bipolar 1, the standards are Lithium and Depakote with antipsychotics added like Seroquel or Abilify.

If Bipolar 2, Lamictal or antipsychotics seem to work well.

It takes alot of time to figure out the right combo.... rapid cycling med question

I am a rapid cycler Bipola II. Iam taking lamictal but it did nothing for mania. Now am trying Depacote with it. I couldn't take the side affects of lithium. I did try Abilify and it made me manic so no go.
