Anyone who's ever been on Seroquel knows it makes you groggy and all that...but I am sleeping way too much but get up a lot of times during the night.

I'm on 100 mg of Seroquel but I have to have at least 12 hours of sleep just to function (where I'm not nodding off throughout the day) and I just find that way too much. They have me on that dose because of my hostility/anger and other psychotic symptoms. I personally think I should be on less because on 50 mg I only sleep 7-8 hours....which is much more to my liking.

Should I ask for a reduction in my meds or should I just deal with the 12 hours of sleep and call it good???

Did you just start..? Because some of that "tiredness" goes away after awhile. That being said, Seroquel is very sedating. My p-doc has suggested taking it at 7-8 PM instead of bedtime, so that it "wears off" by morning.

For psychotic symptoms, you are actually on a low dose. Usually anything less than 300 mg is for "sleep". 300 mg for depression 400-800 for bipolar and psychotic things.....

Are you planning on going up? Because there are other things that can help with pyschotic sympoms that might not be so sedating....like Abilify, etc.

I was on this for 9 months and permanently zombified. Is there not maybe some other med your doc could try you with? Good luck anyway.

Someone pointed out in another thread, and I've found it to be true myself, that the higher the dose, the less the side effects. They started me on 25 mg, 50, 100, 200, then 300 mg. On the doses 25 - 200 the side effects were awful, I was all set to tell my doc that there was no way I was going to continue with this med. Once I hit 300 It was peachy. He wanted to bump it up to 400, but I'm happy with the results and side effects (other than weight gain) on the current dose. This really is a wonder drug for me, my anxiety level is awesome.

100 mg. is nothing . Myself I've been on 200mg. to 800mg. finding the right dose is the trick .

1) First take your Seroquel at the same time ever night and about 2 hours before you go to bed I found that if you take it at different times I would get lag the next day.

2) Why are you taking it. I take it for my bipolar the manic side . After talking to my doctor I take 200mg. at night and 3 100mg. pills as needed . At night if I up and cant sleep or during the day if my manic is getting out of hand .

Seroquel is one of the few meds. with know withdraw and can be safely take at different Mg. for sleep most peolpe take 25mg. to 50mg.for Drug and alcohol withdraw 200mg to 300mg. For bipolar 100mg. to 800mg.

I think you need to speak with your psych about this. If you were already on 50mg before, did this help your psychotic symptoms? You need to talk to them to weigh up how it's affecting you now with whether it's the right drug for you and if a change of dose may be helpful. It could be that something else will suit you more. I think you need to bear in mind that if you are tired all the time then your stress levels and anger are likely to be worse as well.

I have also been on seroquel (up to 300mg), only it didn't quite have the effect it seems to on everyone else, but I seem to have rather stubborn chronic insomnia.

My main symptom that it's treating is the irritability, but I also needed something to knock me out because if I don't take something for sleep I won't sleep for a week or so...so yes I do need it for sleep.

I don't see him till June so I have awhile to decide what questions to ask and stuff like that.
