Strange question. What happens if you take anti-depressants and you don't need them?

Are there adverse effects?

I can't understand why anybody would, but its a though.

Yes , no , maybe , who knows. But someone a link about a news story where people with no depression at all are take anti-depressants to boost there moods and how this could harm them .Its like anything to much of a good thing can backfire on you. Like drugs and drinking that makes you feel good you have to pay the price later.

I've thought about that before. But then it's also crossed my mind, if that's true I wonder how I'm so crazily depressed even with the max dosage and trying several. Ah well. They are over prescribed these days though, so I wouldn't be suprised if there are people out there taking them that didn't need to.

this past week i was at a couple really good seminars on brain and trauma ... 2 different doctors spoke about the importance of having patients get brain scans before prescribing meds... they said that most are on the wrong meds when they come to them. They said that an good example are children who are hypervigilant display the same behaviors of children with add... the problem is that with children who have add the frontal lobe isn't being stimulated and that is why stimulants help those children... a child who has been traumatized and is in the constant state of fight or flight (hypervigilant) state.... when they are given a stimulant it can cause them far more damage... It was there beliefs that brain scans should be done on a regular basis before meds are given... i have tried 3 different antidepressants ... this one seems to be working... but who knows????...lyn

I agree. They should do brain scans before prescribing psych meds.

This is the article about people who use antidepressants to get a "boost". It pisses me off.
