So far with being on Effexor (just 2 weeks now), I'm having panic attacks multiple times a day. I was thinking of asking my pdoc on Wednesday to prescribe me something for them. However, given my history of OD'ing, I don't know if I can expect to be prescribed anything that I could easily overdose on again.

Citalopram, was my first script. PDoc explained, it would treat both my depression and anxiety. It did. Hope, you can get something to treat you.

Citalopram wad also my first script. Worked wonders for me for 8 years. Only one that has helped both my depression and anxiety with minimal side effects. Maybe this would be a good option for you.

My pdoc prescribed me 1 mg Xanax today, and gave me 60 pills despite my history.

I feel you.
I was/still am on Effexor (coming off it now), but found that it made my anxiety skyrocket and only made worse everything it was supposed to help make better. My pdoc refused to prescribe me any benzos for the anxiety because of their high addictive potential. So instead she prescribed me gabapentin. Which did absolutely nothing for the multiple times a day panic attacks I was getting. But then she had me take a whole lot of it at night with another med called prazosin for PTSD nightmares. That has actually helped some with the daily anxiety. I hope you get it figured out soon, my friend! ![]()

be careful w/ Xanax they will bring you to your knees once you try coming off them.

1 mg is a high starting dose - beginning dose is .25, then 0.5, 1.0 etc. Xanax is great for anxiety although i'm surprised they started you out at 1.0.

My pdoc told me to cut them in half or quarter them. But I haven't filled the prescription since I'm pregnant now. Guess I'll have to find something else if there is something else that I can safely take.

I take klonopin and it works wonders! I am allowed to take up to 1mg at a time, but most of the time I only take .25mg or .5mg.
Your pdoc might have you try hydroxyzine because it often helps with anxiety but doesn't have the abuse potential of benzos. Good luck! |

I posted this question somewhere, yet cannot find it
![]() My pdoc is also not going the Xanax route, he feels it did help in the past. We have tried several med's which is not working for my anxiety attacks. My new PCP is willing to try: propranolol. Anyone have any comments on this particular mediation. I have read online and know the signs to lookout for.
