I'm on 900mg of trileptal right now for bipolar II, and moving up to 1200mg soon (trileptal's kind of like a new version of tegretol with less side effects)... anyway, this drug seems to help with my anxiety and bipolar highs, and it helps me get a lot of sleep - in general, I'm just calmer. But it doesn't seem to do much for depression. This is problematic because when I get depressed, I start to get anxious about it: the worrisome thoughts going through my head, concern about what impact the depression will have on my relationships and work, whatever. Pretty soon I've worried myself into an anxiety attack, and although the medication helps it can only do so much.

So what it comes down to is that my depression seems to throw me into anxiety, and then my anxiety eventually throws me back into depression, and the cycling continues. My question is, is there something I can take for depression? I just feel like this medication is very one sided right now, which helps a little, but can only do so much when I'm still getting quite depressed sometimes.

Seroquel might help. Talk to your doctor.

Because you have a diagnosis of Bipolar disorder doctors will be weary about starting you on a SSRI because of the risk of "switching"---or becoming manic.

I had a problem with meds. Nothing would work for very long. Finally, my doctor put me on Abilify. It has worked great for me so far, but everyone is different. You might mention this med to your doctor and see what they say.
