Ugh. People who take ADs as lifestyle drugs make me sick. How spoiled and luxury-minded could you possibly be? They should be thankful that they're not suffering from clinical depression.

I totally agree with you. Antidepressants are over prescribed. Even here in NZ it seems that they have become a quick fix to lifes little ups and downs. Unfortunately, despite the fact they make you feel better, they dont get to the root of the problem. They are powerful drugs, that should be used as a last resort in my opinion.

Yeah, it really is sad. People don't understand, the 'happy ones', what we go through, the pain, the anguish and despair real depression, especially major depression can be. Along with, if you have certain life consequences, such as being in a wheelchair, (like me), or not being able to make friends, or just little things like speak up in school (talk loud).

Oh please. Anyone who would take psychopharmaceuticals for a little boost is in my opinion nuts. I need my meds I get suicidal without them. Heck I can get suicidal with them. But they still make me nervous about the long term effects.

And I think people like this guy totally minimize what real depression is.

I dont buy it. That sounds like someone trying to overcompensate or to explain to other people why hes taking an AD. Ive never once woken up belly laughing or been near someone who has.

This quote REALLY pissed me off. I hate luxury-minded people. I wish I could break into that guy's apartments and steal his "happy pills". For many people they're necessities NOT happy pills but he's too spoiled and shallow to realize that. He's probably so used to his pills that he'd probably jump off a bridge if he went without them for a few days. That would be AWESOME karmic justice!

That is just crazy (more crazy than I!). Currently, I'm on Celexa and, again like Prozac, it takes me to a new level of depression. I get a period of 'happy' that is followed by the deepest lows I've ever experienced. I hate, hate, hate, being on meds but what other alternative do I have. I need to see a doctor to get my meds straighted out- to me, they are dangerous. I couldn't imagine someone wanted them while they know they don't need them. I only get on them when I realize my depression has sucked everything out of me.

Why on earth would a Dr. Rx an AD without depression? Who are these doctors that you can just drive up and make a request for a pill and they hand it out? I just find this ridiculous. How can they help? I’ve always been told that my bipolar, anxiety, and OCD were due to a chemical imbalance, and the meds are a way of balancing these things out. I couldn’t walk into the dr’s office and demand a cast put on my leg just because, and these drugs are much more dangerous than that.

AND I feel cheated. These drugs are supposed to help me, and we're playing duck duck goose in an effort to find the right one, and John Q Public can walk in off the street, perfectly healthy mentally and he gets a dose of sunshine.

he is crazy and should suffer from depression and / or die because he wants to feel happier?

something doesn't sound quite right to me... but then with pharma advertising their meds as they do and doctors prescribing their meds as they do i don't figure you can blame the public...

This annoys the hell out of me.
I also read in one issue of Glamour magazine about how anti-depressants are so in demand these days.. and that it's almost widely used in the US.

To think these people are just having depression and anxiety because of work. >.> OMFG. They should be lucky and thankful enough they don't have to suffer like most of us!!!! OMG I'm so pi`ssed. And they regard as taking anti-deps as a thing for the rich people >.> Damnit.

This is why a lot of people have misconceptions about psych illnesses. "Oh you're depressed, take anti-deps." >.> It's as if it's not a big deal anymore. That's why I don't tell my friends and family about my anxiety and depression because they won't understand. >;[

I honestly never heard of anyone using these as lifestyle drugs. I believe if you don't have an issue with depression, these drugs will backfire and make you manic.

I would give my entire life for one "normal" day. It will never happen, but a person can dream.
