I finally got my lexapro refilled after a week and I was having lots of problems. Mainly dizzy, headache, neckaches, could not sleep, and bathroom time. After I got it today I took one 10mg and within the hour I was good again. Are these common problems when not taken it for awhile. The refill I got is enough for 12 days, but when that happened before it could not be refilled because insurance only pays 1 a month. I need to check with the insurance company to find out. Maybe it is a mistake by the Pdoc who wrote the prescription. I used to get 2 bottles (solution not pill) that last for 24 days and now I get 1 bottle. I think somthing is wrong. Or I don't understand how the insurance works. It is a new Pdoc and he really didn't know anything about me or what I was on. He just wrote 2 prescriptions and gave them to me and setup another meeting in 12 weeks. The other Pdoc seen me every 6 weeks and actually talked to me. I liked her, I don't care for him.

Try talking to your Pharmacist about the refills, something doesn't sound right. They can help you with your questions on side effects and withdrawal also. Good luck!

the withdrawls sound pretty normal. as far as the refill problems, talk to the pharmacist. if it can't be worked out so that you don't have to go without for several days then you need to talk to the doc or have the pharmacist talk to him. you need to take it every day consistently to get the full benefit.

how do withdrawal effects last for this med or any med really? This is the first time I have ever been on a antidepressant so it is all new to me.

i was on lexapro for 5 months, then spent 3 weeks tapering off, but was having enough discomfort from the withdrawl at the lower dose that i just stopped cold turkey from there. after the total stop it took me a month to get back to some sort of order. however, lexapro is one of the harder ones i am told, also everyone reacts differently. some people don't have any problems at all with it. hopefully someone with more experience with me will come along soon.

I had a very difficult time stopping Lexapro. The first time I tried to stop cold turkey off of 10 and the withdrawals were so bad I had to go back on-- just like you, within a couple hrs. of taking just one pill I felt better.

The second time I stopped cold turkey for a about a week, but then I couldn't take it anymore. My pdoc had me cutting the 5mg in half (sort of difficult to do) and taking 2.5mg every other day. This really helped to ease the withdrawals. It took a litlte over 3 weeks for the symptoms to dissipate.

I wish I knew, beforehand, how difficult it would be to go off. I never would have started it in the first place b/c the med wasn't even a help to me.

Congrats, it was my first AD too.

I went from 20mg to off of it cold turkey. I'll tell you now, headaches were bad. First day was okay, second day until the 4th or 5th day wasn't so great. I didn't eat very much. Cold sweats (a bit) and I felt a bit nauseous, but overall...

At least I didn't feel like I was dying when I went onto it!
