Hi,
I have taken Cymbalta but discontinued due to side effects. Has anyone that has taken Cymbalta, tried the new Pristiq? Both are the same class of med. Thanks |

As a fellow Cymbalta user, I'd like to get some info on this new med Pristiq. I can't find it listed on RxList. Is the spelling correct?

I had a friend who took Pristiq for a week, it worked well but he had to discontinue due to urinary retention side effects.

I was taking Pristiq but hated it. It actually made me feel worse. When my pMD wanted to increase it to 100 mg I refused and they changed me to Cymbalta which is working great except for the constipation. I was wondering if this ever lets up?

I am currently taking Pristiq. I am very drug resistant, and I was best on Effexor XR at 450mg... I wanted to stop Effexor because of physical side effects. Constipation, trouble urinating, dry mouth, nasty taste in mouth, limp you know what, etc......
I then tried Cymbalta, and I had a major relapse on it. Big mistake. I am on Pristiq as suggested by my doctor. This is actually the same drug as Effexor but re-engineered in a way that the side-effect causing components are removed leaving the theraputic parts of the drug intact. At least that is what I have read. I have been on 100mg. At first I got better, but then I started to relapse again. I have been on it maybe 8 weeks? This weekend I increased my dosage to 150mg, and I am now waiting to see how that goes. From a side-effect perspective, it is the best SNRI out there. Whether it works better or not remains to be seen. I am hoping I get some relief soon. I am barely keeping it together. |

I was on Cymbalta for a long time for both depression and Fibromyalgia. It stopped working slowly --- like i hardly noticed I was sinking into a black hole of a depression. Now I'm on Pristiq which is Effexor. I can't take more than 50 mgs - - - I turn into gumby. I think the issue might be not needing the 2 chemicals it tweeks. I did much better on an SSRI. It does help the Fibro, but, I'd rather be in pain and have my personality. It's a shame choices like this have to be made.
