I am on 500 mg of Lamictal and 1200 mg of Lithium.
Are either of these known to lower libido or otherwise mess with sexual side effects? I don't remember reading that anywhere. I just haven't been in the mood at all, and I'm usually the one with the higher libido in our relationship. We've only been intimate once in the past 2 months. |

no, haven't heard of it, and i haven't experienced it either on lithium (have been taking it now for over a year) - and the intimate side of my relationship is a-ok!
![]() wow you have a nice dose of lithium - but yeah, i suppose you are going to blood tests and the likes and your pdoc knows what they are doing ![]() how long have you been taking these meds? if you started either of them recently, maybe it will pass when you wait for a while. could there be anything else that could be accounted for the lower libido? pms or anything like that? hope this helps, twilight

I've never had a problem with it taking those two meds. I did, however, when I took Prozac. I just had my pdoc switch me to Welbutrin in hopes that it would help with my libido. It's been about 7 weeks. No luck so far.
The other posted commented that you're on a "nice" dose of Lithium. I took that amount for years. Although, currently I take 300 mg. of Lamictal and I thought that 500mg. seems really high. I guess whatever works for each individual. I tried going up to 400mg. once, but oddly as it sounds, it made me quite depressed. Are those the only two meds you take? Are you married? Just curiuous. We're finally out of the newlywed phase, so the sex is dwindling down. (OK with me) Plus, my husband quit his job and put on weight and that exactly isn't a turn on for me! |

tracy, yeah, i know each individual needs the dose that makes the lithium levels go to the "therapeutic level" in the blood. (sorry if it sounds a bit tacky, english was my second language
![]() ![]() i'm not sure what the deal with lamictal is, though, if the levels need to be monitored by blood tests or something. ![]() twilight

They tweaked my lithium level while I was in the psych hospital, and I think my blood levels are fine now.
I was on Zyprexa too, but we're weaning off that one. I didn't see these side effects listed on that one either. I wonder if it's more mental than physical. For both of us. We are starting marriage counseling, there's a lot we need to work on. I was just curious if the meds were to blame, because I'm normally not this way. |
