Hey guys,

Just started on some Lexapro today, and was wondering if I could get some opinions from those who've had experience with it. What are some of the side effects?

I've looked this stuff up already, just would like to hear from people first hand so I can get a better idea.

Thanks a lot
Jacqueline

I've been on Lexapro for about 10 months. The only side effect I noticed was that the first couple weeks on it I had more headaches that usual. That went away. I noticed improvement in my depression right away, though it wasn't enough. I started out at 10mg and pretty quickly went up to 20mg. Now I've been on 30mg for about a week. I've noticed that I've been able to back off on my Ambien because the increse in dosage has helped me fall asleep at night and stay asleep. Good luck, let us know how it goes for you.

WEIGHT GAIN!! Big time for me. I wasn't told about that possibility until after I gained 30 pounds and was more depressed than ever. It worked great aside from that. Helped me fall asleep, too.

Thanks so much for responding all of you!

I've went over some older posts and seem to have difficulty putting things together! I've heard a lot about weight gain, but then other people said that you don't gain weight. I guess its probably just really individual.

I was on Celexa a couple years ago and didn't have any of those side effects, so i'm hoping my body will respond to this in the same way! I can't afford to be getting sick and everything right around my midterms!

Thanks again guys,
Jacqueline

Lexapro did not work for me at all, but I haven't had any luck with anything other than Klonopin for anxiety.

Been on Lexapro for almost 2 years. I take it at night because of the sedative effect. Tried to wean off of it last year, but I got queazy and had bad headaches. Tough way to find out how sensitive you are to drops in serotonin levels.

I took lexapro sometime last year before summer. I dont remember the mg's, but took it in the morning and at night. It made me more depressed, suicidal and made my anxiety alot worse.

I dont remember the first anti depressant i took, but i think lexapro was around the third one. After that i was tried on 4-5 maybe more. I gained weight, 30lbs, from one or more of those.

They all had the same effect on me as far as being more depressed, etc. So i was put on mood stablizers and klonopin. Then dx'd bipolar. Its gotten better since that change.

I wish you good luck with the lexapro.

((((((((Jacq)))))))))))))!! There you are woman! Was wondering where you disappeared to...

I've tried Lexapro. Actually, it was my first AD ever. It went fairly well, until it stopped working in my system (aka increasing the dose wasn't working to make the effects increase positively).

The only reason I really stopped it though, was because sometimes I really felt emotionally flat - and also, because I have a poor diet and don't do a lot of exercise ... I gained a WHOLE bunch of weight. As in 15-20 pounds. Which seems pretty excessive to me. It's a newer SSRI (from what I've heard) and its got good results for working - but the weight gain, totally turned me off of it.

Lexapro has a "cousin" drug called Celexa which has worked for some people I know though ... but all those I know who tried Lexapro without altering their diets and exercise patterns all gained weight on Lexapro (sorry!)

I had no bad side effects from Lexapro. I was on Zoloft before and they switched thinking that is what was making me gain weight.

I've also been feeling faint... and have fainted once since I've been on it (though I kind of have a history of fainting). Anyone else?......

Yes, I noticed increased headaches when I first started Lexapro. I'd encourage you to hang in there because they'll probably go awhile in a couple weeks or less.

I've been having sleep problems since my depression really kicked in about 1 1/2 yrs ago. Are you taking the Lexapro at night or in the morning. You can experiment with that. I didn't find that the LExapro had a sedative effect until my doseage was bumped up to 30mg. Now I've been cutting back on my Ambien, because the Lexapro makes me a little sleep and it's cut down on my anxiety/depression in general. Good luck and hang in there.

Thanks for the reply Lemon.... I keep being told to just "hang in there"... it sucks though. I feel so rotten... Like permanently borderline fainting..

And I am taking it in the morning... maybe it would be better at night, that way I can sleep it off - though, I don't find I'm tired until the afternoon/early night.

Oh well, I guess I can just hope that it will eventually work and thats why i'm feeling like this now.

Thanks again for the replies everyone.
