I stopped taking Citilopram/Celexa because it was (as so many of you probably know!) making me fat. I was fine for all of last week, which was soooo good.
Anyway I went away to visit friends for the weekend, it was a lot of fun and a really good distraction. I ended up drinking a lot and staying awake for a lot of the weekendn and doing some other crazy stz, and I think I am paying for it now ![]() I know it is my own fault entirely but I am so p*ssed off that I ended up in this state, I stayed in bed all yesterday and most of today and my mind won't work and I have been a bit messy. tonight i got up and had some wine and nice food and i feel a bit better but I wondered if anyone has any advice for stopping feeling like %#@&#! - was doing soooo well and I don't want to end up back where i started. any suggestions of supplements or anything that might be useful to prevent another big down period? silly problem but i thought i would ask anyway. xx |

I ended up drinking this weekend also. I recommend you call your doctor tell him what happened why you stopped taking it and see what his options are. If you want something natural I think St.John's Wort helps some people.

DSF - If you do take SJW, don't take it with the Celexa (citalopram) as the is a risk of serotonin syndrome (ie. excessive sweating, heart palpitation, nausea, etc.). Also, if you are going to take SJW you might as well take Celexa because at dose that would be reasonably efficacious as the Celexa you do run the risk of weight gain with the SJW.
I have found that keeping a log or journal of your food intake while taking an SSRI you can minimize weight gain . SSRIs have a tendency to induce carbohydrate craving and that craving tends to be incidious in nature; you don't realize that you have started to eat more junk food than you normally would. One way to decrease the risk of weight gain with Celexa is to not have potatoe chips, cookies, and the like in the house. Instead stock up on those little carrots, celery, bags of premade salads and fruits like apples and oranges. I am not saying that this will but it definitely won't hurt, and the Celexa is far better at stabilizing mood and resolving depressive symptoms than the SJW. Even proponents of SJW state that it only works for mild to moderate depression. I feel that SJW is not really any better at resolving depressive symptoms than having a good talk with a close friend. This is my opinion, for what it's worth. - Cam |

ummm ... thank you
![]() i stopped taking the Celexa about six days ago because I got so sick of the sudden full-on cravings and also because it screwed up my sleep patterns (waking up heaps) i got some imovane (which i think might be similar to ativan?) but while it does wonders for making me stay asleep even a half makes me groggy the next day. *complains yet again* i still have a mindset that i'd rather take something natural i guess. |
