Sorry for continuing to post on this subject, but it is a major landmark for me to go off this medication after taking it for 17 years, and I thought it might be beneficial for anyone contemplating weaning off to share my exp here.
This past week, off from work from my teaching job, was the time, if there ever was a good time, to go off it completely, since I had been weaning off the Paxil for two years now, as I stated in the previous thread I posted. Even with the small "granules" I had been taking, cutting the 20mg tabs into 4ths or 5ths, and as small as I could for about a month, going off it completely was still hard, with side effects.
I've spent the week without it pretty much non-funcitional, experiencing dizziness, and bouts of irrational thoughts and "brain zaps" in the form of adrenalin-like rushes. Those, now, seem to be gone. Little to no dizziness, few to no brain rushes, and my thought processes are more stable and optimistic.
Love
Patty

Thanks for sharing, it's nice to know that someday I too could be med free!

Love and Hugs,

It sounds to me as though you've been mostly blessed in that you are doing better now. Being drug-free sounds beautiful to me--not having to deal with all the side effects that are common with most drugs.

Good luck in continuing to feel better.

Thank you, Sunrise, Tara and Echoes, for your supportive responses.
I should add, that I am not advocating that everyone should go off these drugs. When I began taking Prozac 17 years ago, it served a great purpose for me, and was a godsend. I was resigned to taking one form or another of this medicine for the rest of my life, and that would have been okay, but I've been so apathetic in the last few years, and I suspect it is the Paxil. It will be an adventure to see how I perceive things without the meds. I'll keep you posted.
Love
Patty
