I apologize if this topic has been already covered here; I'm new to this group.
My psydoc wants to start me on Seroquel to replace the Trazadone I'm taking for sleep. However, I'm really worried (somewhat anorexic) about weight gain. I know that if I start feeling real hungry, I will just throw them out. Anyone with experience with Seroquel? Did you gain weight? Do you know of any other good med for sleep? |

My experience with Seroquel has been good in regards to sleep. However, I have gained at least 20 pounds while taking it. Just wanted to share my story.
Good Luck

foreverlost, you may not have such a severe increase in food cravings if you are on a small dose to help you sleep. I know I have an issue with it, but I am on 800 mg. I have been on Trazadone a couple times before. I think the Seroquel does a much better job of helping me sleep and helps with my other issues.

i had a bad reaction to seroquel, so i couldn't continue on it. but zyprexa helped me a lot, and i didnt get any weight gain.
is it just to help you sleep? if so, could you look into temazepam? that had absolutely no side effects, whatsoever for me. but it is only a short term solution. |

I was on a small dose of seroquel just for sleep mostly trying to take away nightmares. I gained no weight. I'm anorexic/bulimic so that was important to me. But you'll find that everybody reacts differently to different meds. If you want you can go to the drugs link at the top of the page while you're signed in and check out what everybody has to say about seroquel there.

I used to take Trazadone to sleep - but it really didn't work well for me.
My psychiatrist started me on seroquel 2 months ago - for sleep. I, too, was reluctant to take it due to weight gain (also have ED) - I take 25mg at night and I haven't gained weight from taking it. Grace |

Thanks for the info!
I think I'm going to stay on the Trazodone for now because I know that my pdoc would prescribe more than a low dose of Seroquel, as it usually takes me a lot for a med to work. He upped my Trazodone dose to 300 mg. I'm not real pleased with it. |

Been taking Seroquel for almost a year now.
It will definitely help you with your sleep. In my case I've had to decrease myself from 400mg to 100mg now. At 300 and 400 I found myself within a half hour taking if I wasn't in bed with my eyes closed that I was bobbing my head, my eyes rolling back. I would literally almost pass out where I stood. I did not gain any weight with the medication, but was advised that that was one of the side effects. Luckily that didn't phase me. Good luck! |

When I took Seroquel I may have gained a little bit of weight or it was simply me doing the usual, not exercising and feeding my face. There's no real concrete way to determine if you'll gain weight or not without taking it. Yes, you may gain weight, or you may not. However, if you do, the weight gain typically isn't too much.

I did gain weight, the Seroquel was excellent for sleep. It did make me hungry, but the problem was it relaxed me so much that my throat wouldn't swallow, so had to be very careful with a bedtime snack.
