I was on it last summer.. the entire summer... and I have never ever had a problem with drinking... In fact I'd only drink a few times a month before I went on it... but once I started taking it I would craaave alcohol... from the time I'd get up until the time I went to bed. It was awful!!
I finally realized how much it was messing up my life... I went off of the Paxil and then I no longer had the cravings to drink... strange... right?? Has this ever happened to anyone else while being on antidepressants? |

I'm not going to blame Effexor for my alcoholism, I've always been a heavy drinker, but I do believe it accelerated my drinking. I've subsequently seen reports that increased alcohol intake is one of the rarer side effects of Effexor, something about how it is metabolized by one of the liver enzymes, so I wouldn't be surprised if other anti-D's had the same effect.

Oh,God.I think my meds have a similar effect on me either. It seems I tend to drink a bit more than I used to.Well , i m not a heavy drinker now either. I would pay more attention to that and thanks for the information.

Wow it's nice to know someone else went through this and I'm not crazy like my psychiatrist told me... He said he'd never heard of it happening before. But when I was on Paxil it made it so I basically could drink as much of and whatever I wanted and I would never ever get hung over. The reason I normally don't drink much is because I get very sick. My body can't handle it. But when on the Paxil, I would crave it and I'd get so drunk and do such stupid things. It almost ruined my life. I thought it was so strange. Never would have thought an antidepressent could do that to you!
