started taking it last wednesday. alright, i went through the typical nausea-headaches-weakness symptoms, but i think i'm done with those. (though i still get tired after about 1 hour from taking it) i'm on 75 mg, the controlled release capsule. have an appointment with the pdoc in a few weeks, to check out if it's working, but i can tell i'm feeling much better already!
i don't get anxious when i have to stay home alone. of course i'm still feeling frustrated and nervous in big crowds, but i guess that will come in time - besides, i was given this med to treat depression - not social anxiety. the depression - well, i suppose it's getting better. i mean, i'm not actually thinking about all the bad things all the time, and starting to enjoy the little things, like the sunshine, taking a dog for a walk, etc.. or am i just getting kicks out of the idea? that i'm given a med for depression and suddenly i go all "it must be working!" when nothing is really happening? what do you guys think? when did you (or your therapist, friends, etc?) notice the therapeutic effects? thanks for any input. ![]() twilight

typical 'minimum time' for working is 2 weeks, for me it took up to 6.

I started noticing a change from it maybe 10 days to 2 weeks after I first started taking it, and it was around 75 mg as I was still tytrating up. For me it was little things like noticing the sunshine more, or thinking dogs were cute when I saw them when I was out walking. It continued to get better, although ultimately i had to go to a much higher dosage to get the full effect.
Sounds like you're one of the lucky people who it really works for relatively quickly. --splitimage |

I have been on Effexor for at least a year and it does really well for me. I am on 300mg everyday with a 25mg booster of Zoloft for the anxiety. For the most part it works really well but I will notice that just before and right after my period its a little tougher. I've been on it for so long I don't remember how fast it worked but seemed to be quick....but I went directly from Paxil maybe thats why there was no down time...
