I originally was seeing my general doctor for anxiety and he prescribed me klonopin. well the anxiety wasnt getting better really so I went to see a psychiatrist because I thought that a psychiatrist would be better equipped to deal with anxiety issues. The psychiatrist increased my klonopin dose and prescribed me lamictal. Well low and behold, I broke out in a rash from lamictal 3 days later-kind of like a sunburn-my son had a psychiatrist appointment (same pdoc) and I went and showed pdoc the rash but he couldnt see me and told me to come back in a couple of weeks, well that kind of made me mad so I went back to me regular doctor because he seems to care a little bit more and he takes time with me and knows my history. I didn't go back to regular doctor until 3 more weeks later. I already had prescription for klonopin. He increased dose of lexapro. The pharmacy put the klonopin prescription on hold because I didn't need it because I already had one. Well last week the pharmacy faxed my doctor renewal for klonopin prescription and the pharmacy left message on my phone that there was a prescription ready for pick up so my husband went for me and it was a prescription for klonopin, this was in the 2nd of april. I took it back today because I didn't need it because I already have one. I returned it got my money back and told the pharmacy a mistake was made, not sure how, but a mistake was made, but I was honest and I took the medicine back because I don't want to get in trouble for having double prescriptions in one month and I am not really sure how the pharmacy made the mistake of filling it when they just filled one for me on the 24th of march from psychiatrist. What I want to know is am I in trouble for this, can I go to jail. Or did I protect myself by taking prescription back. I have not seen psychiatrist since march 10th and I am just seeing my regular doctor, but I guess when the pharmacy saw that my prescription needed to be refilled, they faxed the doctor, even though I had seen a psychiatrist at this point and had a prescription for klonopin already. Anyways, I returned the medication and it shows in their computer that the medication was returned. I have horrible anxiety and this is really bothering me.

I remember they were really consern about the possible rash thing. They said i should stop it immediately & contact a doctor. I didn't get a rash but that med was useless, other than making me feel like a zombie I wouldn't worry, your not going to go to jail for that...it was an honest mistake ![]() plus jails are so over crowded with real criminals & people for smoking weed, they probably wouldn't have room for you ![]() |

It was just a minor mix-up and you returned the medication - relax, don't stress out about this. There is no reason for this to lead to any kind of legal entaglements.
As for medication... your psychiatrist really should have taken a quick look because there is a serious rash associated with Lamictal, albeit extremely rare. You might want to consider finding another psychiatrist. As for your general doctor, once you are seeing a psychiatrist, the general practitioner should really only be used for physical, non-mental health related issues because the two doctors can start to trip over one another. I know my doctors, the general and psychiatrist, have policies about this. Only one of them should be adjusting your medications, technically, although because it was an emergency it may have been an exception. Do you know what I mean? Anyways, relax about the medication mix-up. You did nothing wrong and were responsible and honest about the situation. |

Don't worry you'll be fine. My husband's gastro doc and his family doc got their wires crossed and both called him in a prescription for his pain meds and he did'nt know it the only thing that happened was his family doc threatened to terminate until he seen where we did'nt even know it was up there. You could only get in trouble if you actually go pick it up and don't notify the pharmacy
