This was really stupid and a situation I hope noone ever finds themselves in. I want on a 6 day drinking binge (Am an alcoholic) so naturally I forgot to take my meds for 6 days. I'm on high dossages of Effexor, Celexa, and Risperidone. Needless to say the meds withdrawl was way worse than the alcohol withdrawl. Then I did something equally stupid according to my pdoc. I immediately started up at my original high dosages once I'd been sober 24 hours. Now I'm having the most horrible side effects. According to my pdoc, who I love, but tends to be kind of blunt this was stupid. Apparently serotonin effects feel exactly like alcohol withdrawl. I've been back on meds since Wed. and I have all of the first side effects that I had when I first started taking them, only way worse.

Please please learn from my stupidity and don't try this at home.

Eh, THink I have this one covered anyways. I will say that drinking and taking meds is just as bad. If your drinking you might as well stop wasting your own time and throw the dam things away or better still, quit the drink and allow the pills to work, just a thought from one recovering alkie.

Well, I think that depends on how much a person drinks though and why they drink, I mean, obviously if you're an alcoholic or going out binge drinking every weekend, yea, not good with the pills and some pills, it's dangerous, but in my own experience drinking even heavily sometimes while taking antidepressants doesn't stop them from working well enough.

((((((((((splitimage)))))))))) Yikes!

My worst situation was forgetting to take my meds for a day or so, and then drinking - forgetting that ADs + alcohol is a dumb idea to begin with... Let me just say I wished I was dead. Or felt like I was... Never again.

Hey Split!

Been there, done that! You're not the only one doing these sort of things.

Don't be too hard on yourself. I think our minds don't always produce the best thoughts that guide our decisions. I'm not a pdoc or anything but I think going on and off meds and playing with the doses of them is part of our "illness." It is just another thing we have to keep an eye on.

I'm glad you made it back....not all of us do...be careful...
