I have been taking Lamictal 25 mg x 2 for two days and have had ghastly blinding headaches both days.
Has anyone had a similar experience? |

I've not tried Lamictal, but got some nasty headaches when I first started on Epilim. I may get my dosage increased next week so will have the headaches again.
What class of drugs is Lamictal in?

Hi Harriet,
Are you on a starter pack? I was so severely depressed and stressed when I started Lamictal in 2004 that I already had bad headaches, so I doubt I would have noticed the difference. But you're started off slow because of the potential side effects, particularly that rash thing. If you are starting, maybe you could begin with one 25 mg tablet for a week (which I thought was recommended anyway) and see if that helps? |

Yes, I had a whopper of a headache when I started Lamictal, and every time my dose steps up I get another headache. When I adjust to the new dose the headaches disappear.
Lamictal has reminded me there is a difference between sadness and depression...I had forgotten that.

Phoenix,
Lamictal is also an anticonvulsant. If you google Lamictal and headache, most of the info is about Lamictal being prescribed to stop migraines. And Epilim is supposed to do that too. Amazing how everyone is different and reacts in a different way. |

I got headaches initially, too, when I took Lamictal. It passed in a week or two but came back with dose increases. Again, those passed. I found Excedrin helped more than just tylenol. Good luck!

I had severe headaches when I tried lamatical for the second time. I had been off all meds for a year and started with 25mg. I also had bad flu like symptoms and no amount of tylenol took the pain away. I did not take any more and it took 4 days for the side effects to go away. I am not into pain. The first time I took lamatical I didn't have any side effects at first (I was also on 4 other antidepress and anti-anxiety meds) but I ended up so sick that I don't remember anything for 2 weeks and ended up in the hospital with acute liver failure looking at a possible liver transplant. My husband said that I kept complaining of severe headaches that I accidently oded on tylenol. I am now taking lithium, but ended up with bad heartburn and chestpain and lower back ache when they tried to increase it from 300 to 600mg, so I just take 300 at this point.

I remember when I first started taking lamictal, I had a terrible headache and almost flu-like symptoms. This got better as the dose increased. I eventually was taking 375mg with no side effects at all. It is a good med if you can be patient with the initial side effects.
