Well I get it, mine was also the 6:00 type too. The truth is even a lot of T's, some who have heard a lot of abuse stories, just don't get what it feels like to experience the worst of the worst. I truly believe that one would have to experience it to really know. ((((minime))))

I second what exoticflower just said. I have told T a bit of what I went through. He is psychoanalytic so he pretty much follows the blank face style. But when I tell him things he gets shocked and it really puts me off telling him more. I know it is because he cares and feels for me, but it really gets in the way of me telling him more. Where is the blank face when I need it? I agree, no one gets it unless you've been there. Plus this stuff happened some time ago and by the hands of people we trusted. It is hard to talk about it and put it out there.

It must be awfully frustrating to feel that your t doesn't understand. Have you told him/her that you don't feel like they understand? Therapy is so hard, I know. Hang in there!

I hate when I feel like that and I feel like that often! I have to remind myself to "put down the mouse and step away from the keyboard". I do not think a T has to "go through it" to have compassion for how you feel. You are right, they cannot completely know how it feels. Like knowing what it feels like to have a child if you have never had one. I am glad my T hasn't gone through it. I would not want anyone to have to go through anything even close ever.

But with that said I do not think they pretend to know how it feels. I believe that T understands how it makes you feel and how it interferes with your life today. I guess if they had too much dysfunction etc they probably could not help us but they can be compassionate and helpful.

I hope you feel better :-)

Mini, why do you feel your T's aren't getting it?
