So I went into T's office today - very different! New sofa with a matching ottoman, new rug, and new throw pillows on the sofa. It all even smelled new. I couldn't get comfortable on the new sofa, it felt so scratchy to me. T used to have an ottoman that I'd put my feet up on, and then a smaller footstool that she'd use. After awhile, she encouraged me to put my feet up on the new ottoman today, only she needed me to help move the ottoman across the new rug! So then I put my feet up on it, and after awhile, T put her feet up on the same ottoman across from me - it actually felt nice and cozy!

So has anyone else's T made changes to their office that took you by surprise?

I hope I learn to like that new sofa!

In the year that I've been going, I don't think T has ever changed anything. Even my old T...I saw him for two years, stopped, then I come back about six years later, and nothing had changed.

Old T got new carpet and it totally changed the room. It was so weird. I got used to it though. I think the couch would really throw me off.

T says she knows better than to change anything, but pdoc moved everything around once and it totally freaked me out. After a while, I realized she'd improved things by the rearrangement, but it still feels a little weird sometimes.

T has two wing chairs drawn up in a chatty position, and one overstuffed couch that looks impossible to stay awake in (or to get out of). the chair I sit in is too big for me and I feel swallowed up or trapped in it, which is very distracting, so I usually end up perched on the very edge of the seat, which is tiring.

I haven't mentioned hating that chair but once, and last time I went there was the second time... and as soon as I said it, T offered to switch chairs with me.

Me sit in her chair?! no way!

I've actually considered doing this...just as a joke...walk in and plop down in her chair.

Hahaha, I never thought of that! Good idea

I've never seen any changes to T's office, but I go in different rooms from week to week. She says she's trying to get a permanent office for the night my appointment usually falls on. I hope she gets my favorite office

I changed T's so often I never had a chance to get to the point where I noticed much of anything and never knew if they changed much of anything.

Until my present T popped into picture. Her office is comfy enough and she closes the shades as my eyes are somewhat light sensitive. Then after several sessions, all of a sudden there was a really nice bookcase that popped up with all these great artbooks and history books, etc.

She obviously did it for me and maybe some others, but she new right away what my interests were and filled it with exactly what I would put in my own. Also, she said I could borrow them any time and keep them as long as I wanted to.

Now, I don't know if this is some form of control, or to gain her trust or whatever, but it doesn't matter, because I love those books and as I had already trusted her before this is just a big plus for me.
