Do other people feel impatient in T sometimes?
So as many of you know I recently moved. My last T (who I still miss) did the whole termination thing, but it brought up a lot of issues so there was no real intensity change before I left. We were still working on things up until our last session. I feel like we concluded well but there was no relaxation of the intensity. We were doing good work.

Now with my new T who I'm going to work with I want to get back to dealing with stuff. I know that it is going to take time to build up trust and slowly get back into things, but I feel like it is slow and before we were at a good point and able to deal with things like I was with my last T, but I'm feeling impatient. I'm guessing there is probably something bubbling up underneath that wants to be dealt with, but at this point I don't know what it is. Just the impatient feeling.

Perhaps you are feeling familiar with the therapy process, which is good...yet your new T needs time to get to know you in the way your previous T did in order for her to be comfortable and for the two of you to get to that place where you want to be.

Trust the process, my T said to me when I was impatient or doubting or frightened.

Talk about your feeling of impatience and see how that goes.

I can certainly relate to feeling impatient or frustrated with the therapy process! Hang in there, I think you're doing great. And for sure, talk to your T about how you're feeling. My T sensed how I was feeling and brought it up, and it was really good to talk about it - it's led to some positive changes in my therapy, like trying EMDR and increasing how often I go.
