I finally heard from my psyc hospital that my pdoc is not returning to practice there. I kind of new that unofficially. So anyway they have a legal duty to refer me to someone else, and I got the call today. It was truely laughable. Referals include an LGBT counselling service (I'm straight) with a one year waiting list, that was outside my catchment area, the women's counselling referal service which only refers to counsellors not pdocs, a geared to income counselling service with a one year waiting list, that does not necessarily include podocs, and two people I believe are actually pdocs. I'm not sure about the first one, as his voice mail ended with "remember to breath". I've left messages with both of them, but am not getting my hopes up.

I have an appointment with my family Dr. next week to see if she's comfortable taking over prescribing my psych meds until I can find a pdoc, and to hopefully start the referal process to find one. I'm hoping she can refer me (Pretty much a necessity up in Canada to see anyone affiliated with a hospital, which is my prefferance) or I start cold calling pdoc's in private practice.

Hows this for my Intro, Hi my name is X, I'm looking for a psychiatrist who is knowledgeable about concurrent disorders, has experinece with self injury and PTSD, and can handle complex med's management." Like I'm a real winner of a potential client.

Annoyed and cranky.

So the search for a new pdoc continues

SO sorry you're going through this Splitimage. I am going through the same thing (appt Thursday with a new pdoc, no appt yet with a T). It's so hard to allow someone in your life and trust them in the way that we trust pdocs and Ts and then to have to go and find someone else just like that isn't a fun process. It's good the hospital at least gave you some names.... it's a start even if it's not a huge help. Hopefully you'll find someone soon who is more than accepting of you as a person and a patient. I'm sure your family Dr. will prescribe your meds given the situation. He/she won't be ideal to handle crisis situations and won't likely feel comfortable making med changes but I'm sure they aren't going to make you go off your meds while you work to find someone new. Good luck with the process!
