Yesterday my T told me she is taking two weeks off for her vacation, which she does every year around this time. Then she told me I could call her if I needed her during her vacation. I told her that I would never do that, and she said she wants me to know she is there, and that she knows it helps me to just know that. She is so right! I feel better able to handle anything life throws at me when I know she is there if I need her. I have been seeing her for many years and always knew i could call, but she never said that so deliberately before. It just made me feel so safe and secure. I think a lot of times I am scared of being alone in the world, left to face everything on my own. But I'm not really alone. Those are just feelings from the past when I really was alone. I love my T!

That's great that she shared that offer with you. My T told me before he went on vacation that I could call him if I needed him. I told him that I would hate to do that to him, he deserved his break. He said, absolutely, but as part of his commitment as my therapist, you don't just go away and think that everything is going to be ok and that he's available if I need him. He also gave me an alternate T who I know as a back-up, if I'm comfortable.

At the time, my stubborn independence got in the way of noticing that he was being a very caring and responsible T.

YAY!!!! That is AWESOME! Yeah, it seems life hits harder when T is "unavalible". I too have had times where she said "I will be out but you can call me"... and times where she was where there was no phone connection (ouch).
Soooooooo glad you have that option to you and that she made sure you KNOW it!

I like having a safety net too. It makes the likelihood of me needing it less because I feel safer just having it there. I am glad you have your safety net.

Yes mine does the same. She has a cell phone that is for emergencies (when she's here) and you can also call that when she's on vacation. I've only used that once, but it is so comforting to know it's there.
