So, I got to thinking about my situation (see my other posts on the forum for some of it...there is much more that I am not comfortable posting for strangers) and decided to write my psychiatrist a letter of my current concerns. My next visit isn't for another 3 weeks (about) and I want to make him aware of my concerns before then. So, I thought that a letter would be a good manner to do this is. I get to say what's on my mind without any interruptions.
I spent the last 2 hours typing the letter (I kept deleting and retyping stuff as I kept not liking how I was saying what was on my mind). 4 pages later it is done and ready to be printed and sent. I included why I thought I was misdiagnosed, what else I thought it could be based on my research and why, asked what thoughts/suggestions he had, thanked him for taking the time to read my long-winded letter, and said I look forward to getting his input on it at my next appointment. I just hope he doesn't call me after recieving the letter. Discussing it on the phone would be even more uncomfortable for me than discussing it in person. But I know that I will without a doubt have to talk about these things in person with him, as any good doctor wouldn't let them go undiscussed. I just hope he doesn't "hate" me for my letter. *sigh* Now to get the courage to actually send it. |

Please sent is, Squirrel1983. I have seen many mental health professionals. Many times I was not an exemplary client. Even so, I was treated civilly.

I would include at the end of the letter you 'would like to discuss this in person' and if you would like to set-up an earlier appointment. This should help with your concern so he doesn't call you except to make an earlier appt.

((((Squirrel))))
Thank you for posting. I think you did a good thing writing about your concerns and knowing that you will need to talk about them when you see him. Congrats on knowing what you needed and for doing it. I think that shows that you are concerned and wanting to find out as much about your situation as possible. The fact that you took the time to write the letter and get it done the way you felt best is important. I think you should send it and the fact that you took the time to write it is great. Thank you for sharing again and I wish you the best. Sending gentle hugs and loving thoughts. Always. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() dps ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Edited the letter twice already since writing it. Didn't delete anything just added more. Still not satisified with it.

My thought is the letter will be the basis for a good and helpful discussion.

Just take the letter with you at your next appointment and ask them to read it.
A therapist worth anything will want to know what your concerns are and will want to discuss them with you. Never be embarrassed as this is part of their job and you are their employer. Cheers ![]() |
