Hi, I'm a little new here and I also just started therapy not too long ago. Its been sort of hard for me - but good too I think.
I started with marital/anger issues - but there are a lot of emotional, abuse, bereavement, etc, etc issues underlying all this too. Unfortunately, if it hasn't been done to me - it hasn't been invented yet! Or if it hasn't happened to me yet - just wait, it will. So I have a lot to sort out in therapy. I have begun to write things down - this is helping me. And also I do a lot of reading about the therapeutic process online - this helps me to understand the "how and why" of therapy and keeps me on board with the process. I'll be very interested to read what everybody has to write here. Cocoa58 |

I think that's what therapy is all about... being both "good" and "bad" or hard simultaneously. Hope that it helps you

Welcome, Cocoa. I'm glad to hear you're in therapy. I don't know all your concerns, but if you ever read any of my posts, you'll note that I often encourage people in that direction. Therapy can serve many purposes--both supportive, for example, if someone is going through cancer treatment--and healing--such as working through damage that has occurred to them through their experiences with other people.
I do emphasize that therapy is work. You're probably seeing that. I picture the cartoon of a patient who flops on the proverbial couch and says to the therapist, "Okay, I'm here. Do therapy on me!" It's certainly not a passive process. And if you have a lot to work through, it will take time... But, you sound motivated and hopeful--and I wish for you the best. My personal thought is that you have made a wise choice.... |
