Hi, I'm a little new here and I also just started therapy not too long ago. Its been sort of hard for me - but good too I think.

I started with marital/anger issues - but there are a lot of emotional, abuse, bereavement, etc, etc issues underlying all this too.

Unfortunately, if it hasn't been done to me - it hasn't been invented yet! Or if it hasn't happened to me yet - just wait, it will.

So I have a lot to sort out in therapy.

I have begun to write things down - this is helping me. And also I do a lot of reading about the therapeutic process online - this helps me to understand the "how and why" of therapy and keeps me on board with the process.

I'll be very interested to read what everybody has to write here.

Thanks for this!

I think that's what therapy is all about... being both "good" and "bad" or hard simultaneously. Hope that it helps you

Welcome, Cocoa. I'm glad to hear you're in therapy. I don't know all your concerns, but if you ever read any of my posts, you'll note that I often encourage people in that direction. Therapy can serve many purposes--both supportive, for example, if someone is going through cancer treatment--and healing--such as working through damage that has occurred to them through their experiences with other people.

I do emphasize that therapy is work. You're probably seeing that. I picture the cartoon of a patient who flops on the proverbial couch and says to the therapist, "Okay, I'm here. Do therapy on me!" It's certainly not a passive process. And if you have a lot to work through, it will take time...

But, you sound motivated and hopeful--and I wish for you the best. My personal thought is that you have made a wise choice....

Welcom Cocoa It sounds like you are very eager to get the most of your therapy. You are right that it is hard work, but the results are good. I also like to write to help me sort out what's going on with my therapy. I like to read, too, but sometimes I read too much and get caught up in the why and how of it all instead of the here and now of my feelings. Best of luck to you as you continue in your therapy. I think you'll find that the good folks here are a wonderful group to learn from and share with. As a mostly lurker, I am always amazed at the strength and generosity of these PCers.
