My T does little talking and rarely gives any advice. He listens, asks questions, repeats some things to make sure he got it. But, that's about it. I feel like I am talking to a chair sometimes. ARG!!!

I sympathize. I can tell you already I don't think that's very therapeutic. I would be very pissed off about it and tell him as such, but that's just me and not everyone can do that.

How long have you seen this T? Can you search for another one on the down low?

yes thats ok, a good therapist will allow you to discover them and what you need, rather then they sholve it down your throat, I was reading winnicott the other day and he talks about the importance of the "space" given to people for just that purpose, he gives an example of a child being given a toy, they need time to "discover" its purpse and meaning to him/her and with time will reach out and begin to explore/use it as they wish too. I know I have a fear of abandoment and engulfment and if someone shoves something at me it feels awful. Though you may feel your talking to a chair with time your find that not to be the case, and actually therapy is about having the space to talk and to hear what your saying yourself? its about being able to get to know yourself, the T is listening believe me, I felt very much like you at first unable to tolerate pace nor calmness nor silence.
Thanks for this!

I use to fantasize my T was a chair (so I would talk and not be so scared :-) A T that doesn't talk much can make it easier to hear one's self and think about things without undue interruption but sometimes it can feel kind of lonely and confusing I think.

That wouldn't work for me at all. Everyone's different. Some people would like and do well with this kind of therapy but I need someone to HELP me cope, not just listen.

I've been with T for seven months. I admit, I usually come out of session and have some realization or epiphany about two hours later. LOL. I guess he must be doing something right. Maybe I'll just ask him for a little more feedack during session and see if he's down with that.
Thanks!
