i always get a call friday to let me know i have an appointment on monday at 5.it is a standing appointment so it happens every friday.i worked all day so didnt think about it untill last night.i dont know what to do.i dont know if i have an appointment monday or if she is going to be out of the office.this has never happened before.i mat have forgotten that she told me she was going to be out but i honestly dont remember her doing so.but now i have no idea when my next appointment is.im not going monday because i assume no call means she is out and i couldnt handle showing up and her not being thare.i feel so stupid for not remembering things said in my sessions.i hate it.i was looking foward to going and seeing her i am kind of dissapointed because i havnt seen her in two weeks and now it will be three if i even have an appointment next week.i guess ill just wate to see if i get a call next week.i may not if i did have an appointment .T may just terminate me for not showing up.who knows maybe this was her plan

Your T seems to try to be open and clear in her communication, granite. If she had a reason to terminate, I am sure she would talk to you about it, not just take you off the schedule without saying anything. That is not how good (or even halfway-decent) T's operate, and you have a good T.

Can you call Monday morning to confirm your appointment? Don't just not show up. There could be any reason that the call didn't come...they were off because it was a holiday, the person who makes calls made a mistake, etc.

I know it's hard not to assume to worst....but I think that usually the big fears we make up in our head turn out SO often to not be what's true.

Will you call on Monday??

Thanks for this!

Your appointment is a standing appointment, so I would assume it's still on and go. It's your appointment and it's still there whether they call or not, is my thought.
The call is just a courtesy call, and I wonder if the office was closed for Good Friday or if the person who makes the calls didn't work on Friday because of that or maybe called off so the person was out unexpectedly.

I would go, assuming my standing appointment is just that, and the courtesy call wasn't made for some unknown reason.
Thanks for this!

Hi granite,

I also get a confirmation call before a few days before my appointments with T. There have been a few occasions when I did not receive a call and I worried that I didn't really have an appointment set up. But, all of those times ended up being that the person who does the calls was out sick or some other reason. I DID have my appointment still scheduled, i just didn't get the call. So granite, I would suggest that you call your T on Monday and double check if you have the appointment. If I were you, I wouldn't just not go. I do understand that you would want to avoid showing up to find her not there, but you will feel bad if you don't go and it ended up that your T was expecting you after all. I know how hard it is to think the appointment isn't really there. Once, I really freaked out when i didn't get the call and made several frantic phone calls the night before to make sure it was on for the next day. I also left a voice mail for T. Can you leave a voicemail for T and let her know that you are unsure because you didn't get the confirmation call? That way she will know what is going on.

I hope you can try to have a good weekend despite the uncertainty of your Monday appointment.

thanks tree i do tend to think the worst.i'm not always great at remembering these things.my T says she tells me but then i dont remember it seems to happen a lot but usually it gets caught early so i'm usually knowing what is going on by monday and i always rely on the call instead of my T because i just dont trust it.as far as calling ,I'm scared.i know it is stupid but she doesnt like e-mail in fact she told me she no longer has a computer in her office and no letters so i assume she doesnt like calls either .she told me i am to never quit over the phone or anything like that.and not to mention that i would have to talk i hate talking on the phone .heck i just hate talking.i dont mean to sound all kinds of dramatic i know i will somehow end up calling monday but any sugestions as to what to say i am just not good at this at all.i just want to say i realy didnt need this confusion after the weeks i have had with all this crap about trust running through my head

Granite, even if you were paying utmost attention, we are human and we forget things. You don't have to add anything if you don't want to. You don't have to give any reason for wanting to confirm, you just want to confirm. I would imagine they get calls like this often throughout the day.

It's kind of a reverse of them calling to remind/confirm your appointment
Thanks for this!

Yep, you surely still have an appt! And a simple call will confirm that you do so that you do show up and T doesn't have to call and wonder where you are when she was expecting you!
I just have standing appt's too, so no confirmation calls.....no calls unless T put the wrong time on my appt card (like she did once and I didn't show up at the time she had in her appt book because she put a later time on my card!)
Thanks for this!

Just catching up and wondering if you called - I always get confirmations and if I don't I call to follow up - even over a holiday weekend and you get a machine I'm sure they will check it and get back to you.

I bet they were off Friday for Good Friday. My T usually texts me a reminder, but sometimes forgets or doesn't have time. He's still there either way.

granite, how great that you were able to find a different way to look at this before you spiralled too far. I love it when that happens!

granite, I also assume that the office may have been closed because of Good Friday. I'm glad you realized you can call and confirm with the secretary about your appointment. I hope you have a good session on Monday! Sorry I haven't been around much but I'm still out-of-town.
Thanks for this!
