So I was able to handle the weekend family stuff okay. Well better than okay I handled it well. I thought T would be happy and I was kind of proud. When I told T she was beaming and kept going back to it. For the first time in my life I went to see relatives and didn't go visit the aunt who was involved in CSA - I didn't even go down the street.

We talked about how I did it and I said I decided to use my stubborness for good for once! I just decided beforehand I wouldn't go there. I also had a lot of 'safety nets' for self soothing. At one point I said "no one can make me go down that street again"

T said that it was BIG and that I had gone to a whole new set of tools- she said it was if I had used a power drill for the first time! She said that she was glad I was on MY side.

I had to laugh and ask her if I suprised her- she said not so much that she was suprised just really really happy for me.

It's slowly sinking in. I felt that my T was going beyond mirroring she was magnifying the good stuff. And just because it is good it can still be good.
Just had to share with some folks who would 'get it'!
Thanks for this!

Thanks everyone! I have to say, it's a welcome change to obsess over POSITIVE details from therapy for a change. I keep doing back to the 'power drill' metaphor. And I'm thinking of how when you first turn on a drill it's hard to resist the urge to rev it up a few times just for fun. So I'm gonna try and do that this week. I know there's still work to be done but it's exciting to think about doing it with new tools!
Thanks for this!
