AS the title suggests does anyone take offence as I myself do... Now maybe its because of the name of the film PSYChO by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock about the infamous Norman Bates.
Could they not call it something more complimentary like healing hour or something less crappy.

Not at all. It's an abbreviation of "psychological".
Thanks for this!

Origin:
< Greek, combining form of psȳchḗ breath, spirit, soul, mind; akin to psȳ́chein to blow ( see psykter)

can't really take offence to that but i see where you're coming from.

No, not at all - on the contrary, I actually prefer calling it "psychotherapy" to just "therapy", because the latter is so unspecific.
Thanks for this!

I always refer to PC as "psychocentral" for exactly that reason - like the hair club for men, not only am I a member, I am proud to be its lead psycho.
Thanks for this!

The word "psycho" as short for for "psychopath" is the problem.
Psychopath means "sick soul", or some such. It's the pathology that we should be focussing on when we talk about psychopaths.

Solution: don't refer to psychopaths as "psycho".

The root "psych" or "psycho" refers to the mind, where "ology" is the study of something. I don't take offense to it - the fact that many with mental disorders are referred to as "psycho" is just a reflection of society's ignorance. Like we needed more of those!

The word psychotic bothers me because my husband says that is what I am for self harming.

I think "psychotic" refers specifically to people who have hallucinations (psychosis). (Don't know why they chose that word.)

"psycho" is a component of many words, most of which are widely misunderstood.

How come I didn't know this one? Am so going to share it with my T...

Back to original Q. No, maybe it's because my mum use to read Greek tales to me and the one about Eros and Psyche was among her favorites. So, for me, it's more connected with beautiful but stupid girl
