I'm wanting to talk to someone about some issues but I'm unable to see anyone in person. Is there such thing as legit online therapy? I want to talk to someone about a disorder I think I may have and would like some help with it.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

XOXO

Though I don't know much about it, I know there is some legit on line therapy. You might be able to find out some info from the WEB MD site.

Nannypat... Thank you for the reply I'll have to check it out

I have been checking out this site more and I guess they have a link to Liveperson.com where you can talk to people. I'm just not sure if someone online can diagnose me.

Yes, there is. Do your homework and check out the therapist's credentials. We probably all should do that anyway, in any setting, but somehow it does seem easier for someone to set themselves up online without proper qualifications, and you have less to go on if you only see someone online. I was able to talk a therapist who only practiced in a traditional setting to work with me online, until I was able to see her in person. You might also want to find someone you might eventually or occasionally visit in person, and see if they would do some work online.

There is a professional organization for online therapy. https://www.ismho.org/home.asp They have resources, and some guidelines for practice of online therapy https://www.ismho.org/suggestions.asp

yes there definitely is such a thing, sometimes people are living overseas or in remote areas where they can't get to a therapist...I have heard Skype sessions are becoming popular.

My Ts practice does email therapy but the rates are the same as going to see a T face to face. I've also used http://www.liveperson.com/experts/pr...al-counseling/

They charge either for live chat by the minute, or you can email them too. I found them to be quite good if my T isnt around and I need some support

Thank you for your replies

I guess PC has a link for Liveperson.com. I'm checking that site out. Seems pretty cool and like it could work.

I just don't know if they diagnose online. Now sure why they couldn't, though.

I need to talk to someone online because I currently live in Europe and I'm not able to see someone in person. Sucks.

Diagnosis online is just like in person. A lot of therapists will avoid it either way, and different therapists can have different opinions too. Diagnosis isn't all it's cracked up to be. It's really just a label that attempts to describe your symptoms and put them into a category. Most therapist will discuss diagnosis with you, at least after enough time to get a feel for what your symptoms are, if you ask.

Online can be a good way to get started with therapy. You can get support and insight that way, and either way you get out of it what you put into it.
