And do you have a problem with his/her faith/beliefs?

No problem whatsoever.

Yes, she believes in God. She is a Pastor's daughter. She is well versed in the scriptures. We talk about God, religion, and spiritual things all the time. We are of the same faith, so it has only been a positive thing for me. Since part of my issues stem from some religious abuse, I knew that I wanted (needed) to work with a Christian Therapist.

Yeah I would say she believes in God since she once told me that her other profession is a pastor. It doesn't bother me at all because she doesn't preach to me or anything. But when my grandfather passed away last year she said some very comforting things that helped me get through it that I think she was able to provide because she is also a pastor and has probably had experience with dealing with people who are grieving.

Im not sure if he does. I dont believe myself but I cant see it being a problem if he did. Why do you ask? Do you think it would be a problem for you if your T believed in God?

Yes. Our faiths are quite similar.

Protoform, what makes you ask this question? And what kind of T would you imagine for yourself?

This is an interesting question and one that I just ran accross.
I finally found a therapist (thanks to Psych Central). It turns out it is a faith based counseling center. I am not religious and this guy talks a lot a bout God. I am going to tell him that I am not comfortable with it. Hopefully it won't be a problem, as I am in need of help. |

Yes, and it makes it so much easier to work through some of my issues because we have the same faith background and I don't feel like I have to edit or explain faith topics with him. I can just say it and he'll understand.

yes, she does. and no, I have no problem, because she and I are the same wavelength spiritually and I think it is awesome and wonderful to have someone to relate to on the same level I am, and be able to discuss spiritual issues I have as well!

Yes. I'm glad that I can share spirituality with him....we are of different faiths, but our spiritual beliefs match up quite well anyhow. And spirituality has been a big piece in the puzzle of how I've healed (and continue to heal).
T wouldn't bring up spirituality on his own...it something I seek, and because I talk about it a lot, it's been something he's talked about too. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yes, and no it's not a problem. Our faiths are different, but it's never been a problem. I'm very firm in my spiritual beliefs and it's not something we focus on in therapy. She is very respectful of my beliefs, I'm respectful of hers, and my faith only comes up very rarely in conversation.

This association of therapists was directly suggested to me by my priest.. so yes, she share my same belief.
But really, really rarely religious speaking enter in our sessions. |

I had a pastor quite a few years back who was a licensed pastoral counselor. He was my therapist for several years, and like you, religious discussion rarely entered our conversations. He was a great therapist by the way.

I have no idea--but its funny that this got asked, because just last week I brought up how I don't believe in a God/higher power, and my T was saying that having spirituality helps people, so you know there is something bigger than you. That is the most we've ever talked about anything remotely religious.

My T and I are of the same faith. Faith is a big part of my life so it has helped tremendously. However, it would not matter to me if he didn't believe or if he believed on another faith as long as he was respectful of my beliefs which I know he would be. Hey Protoform, are you ever going to answer people's questions to why you posted this in the first place?

My therapist is a Christian just like I am. I am really glad about that because we can talk about God and talk about the Bible. I love that.

No my T doesn't. It doesn't bother me because most days I don't either.
