I wouldn't cancel at the last moment; I would go and talk to her in person, get some closure for both of you if you want to quit seeing her and start seeing someone else and let her in on what you have been struggling with (her being seemingly too critical). You might learn something important!

![]() ![]() ![]() I would rather take apart the world and rebuild it or take apart myself and be someone new altogether. I don't want to learn something! No more working my brain. I want to be happy! No more coping with this lack of fit!!! |

But a one-sided decision of lack of fit means you don't know reasons and whether it is a true lack of fit or a perception problem you are having or one she is having because of lack of disclosure from you or what. In the future, you can get into other, similar problems and be none the wiser how to deal with them. Taking the time now to come to an understanding between the two of you (learn whether she really does dislike you or not, what she meant by what she said, etc.) can only help you in the future. I think its hard to get to "happy" without larger understanding of other people and how they perceive us and how we function in the larger world.

Have you ever gotten into one of those fights with a girl friend, maybe when you were a teen, and you made a pact to each tell each other the things you don't like about each other? "Come on, be honest. What don't you like about me?" That never works. You have to be cool and aloof and philosophical as Sartre or Camus to be able to take that kind of existential doubt. NOBODY wants to know what is unlikeable about themselves and asking someone who is already pissed at you that is a recipe for DISASTER!
But, I'm still going to session. Btw-- the caps were added for emphasis just because it is definitely going to be a disaster. Last edited by lastyearisblank; Jul 13, 2011 at 02:47 PM. |

You are her boss and if you feel like she doesnt like you then you should tell her how you feel. Just tell her that if she doesnt like you then you need to find a new therapist who wont waist your time. She is supposed to be objective and if she cant do that part then she isnt much of a therapist. You shouldnt have to feel so much anxiety because of your therapist that is only going to add to your reasonings for being in there. Just talk to her about it. You pay her not the other way around.
