I'm looking specifically for input on what should happen on transfer from one therapist to another. The reason is that the hospital's latest justification for denying me the psychotherapy that my GP, my counsellor, the psychiatrist and mental health social worker have said I need is that there should be a 2-3 month break between one form of therapy (ie my counsellor's support) enging and another beginning. I've never come across this idea before and what I am really looking for is some information about official guidelines, hopefully so I may be able to fight it.

Thanks in advance

Caroline

Caroline,
That doesn't make any sense. Have you checked with your insurance provider to see what their guidelines are?

THanks Jane. I'm in England so there aren't any insurance providers to check with - it's just our inadequate nhs. Of course, this is not the real reason (as has now been said unofficially to me) - the real reason is that they have closed their lists and are not accepting any new patients as they don't have enough money.

Thank you, _Sky. I will check it out. Everyone I have spoken to has been surprised and has never come across this as a justification before. Well they wouldn't, would they - because it is not a justification, it's an excuse.

Well, I have no clue why 3 doctors would all say this... I mean, not in the patient's best interest type clue... I wasn't there, so I take your word for it.. I wonder if one made a strong stand or opinion or idea and the other two wimped out and are going along... ???

That site looks interesting.. so much I wanted to read but couldn't lots of links.. hope there's something there to help you!

I didn't make myself clear I think. My GP, the psychiatrist, my counsellor and the mental health social worker all say I need the psychotherapy. The psychotherapist, who has never met me, is the one who is saying that there has to be a 2-3 month break between me ending ocunselling and starting any psychotherapy. Nobody I have talked to has come across this. Of course, it isn't the REAL reason - the real reason is their waiting list is too long and they are nt adding any more patients. Bet that can't be construed as a CLINICAL reason, and I have asked for a clinical reason in the complaint i have already made to the hospital.
THanks for the help. I did look around it last night but couldn't find anything on the subject. I will look in the library today perhaps - though I am being told I need to forget all about it for now because it is just making me feel worse.
