I have been with 3 different T's over the last 9 years. My current T is a lovely woman (I have told her so), but I also told her that I may need some higher power in my treatment. My treatment having changed from 'being a substance abuser', to , finding my best buddy whom had sui'd in our home (he was still alive when i found him), to, having weird personality changes over the last 8 years, to flashbacks to being abused as a child. All this has happened in life. (for more info have a look at 'R.I.P Trigger' in Grief and Loss, but its called Trigger Warning for a reason, ok).

My situation now is I am telling my T that she is not qualified enough to deal with me, and she agrees...

I know I need to speak to a higher power in psych therapy, and be advised on how to deal with the feelings inside.

I find Psych central the best advice center i can get, or afford at the moment.

It is a tricky situation seeing as my treatment will stop, but i will need to see someone higher up to get some answers.

Would it be possible to stay with your current T until you find someone else who you feel can help you better? Even when you do find someone you could stay with your current T few a few weeks before transitioning to the new person??

I understand its not an easy choice to make though but it sounds like you have been through a lot and know what your needs are which is a big thing also.
Thanks for this!

Perhaps you could find a trauma expert who would help you over skype or phone if they live too far away and are the right price? You have a whole lot of pain inside.
You need to be heard fully and helped out. You deserve that.
Thanks for this!

Like a specialist in grief counseling. My T lost his mother when he was young, I read about it in an interview about him and several other T's that a local writer had in a local paper, and that was a big part of the reason I chose him. But your current T should be able to refer you, or to refer you to someone who could help you find someone. It's not that she is not qualified per se, so much that she may be more of a general practitioner to put it in medical terms and a case would be better served by a burn specialist. I wish you well, my friend.
Thanks for this!

I am glad your current T agrees with your need. I have been in a similar place with a T who thought she could do everything.

My first thought is to make sure you get everything you need from current T at the moment. Make sure the work you two have done together is as solid as it can be.

I would ask current T's help in finding someone. Depending on the nature of things the two T's may be able to work together. A friend of mine was an addictions T and often would find other challenges as his clients became sober. He would then connect them to a T that worked with that issue while continuing to work with them on their sobriety.

I have also cycled back to T's as needed. Did great trauma CBT work with a T then went on to work with another T on other stuff. Later came back to the CBT T for more skills that would help with the Aspi that had been hidden under the trauma.

My guess is that current T is not going to leave you high and dry. They will help you find the right fit, know what you need, know how to interview potential new T's and come to a decision. They will also, I think, help you make the transition over. If down the road new T doesn't work out for some reason I bet current T will be there to help you find someone new.

I am changing from a Therapist is a special limited program, and part of the service is to make sure I get connected and am not left without therapy.
When I was a massage therapist, I knew all kinds of 'specialists' that I could refer if my client was outside my scope of practice.
take care
