Does anyone know a way to get a t or a pdoc without having insurance and paying sky high prices? Single mom here with so much stress going on all the wires in my brain seem to be shorting out... Not much money for doctor help though, any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I used community resources when I first started therapy.

Hi Purple,

I'm also a single mom without insurance. I just recently began therapy through a community health center. I applied for something called MHDD and was given 33 sessions for free. You could call around and see if there is something like this in your area. I'm not 100% sure, but I think they also told me that when my 33 sessions run out, I can continue to see my T, using a sliding scale fee.

I can really empathize with you; being a single parent is rough.

I work at a community mental health agency, and we only see people without insurance that meet financial criteria, or who have medicaid. I would use the internet or phone book to seek out a CMHA in your area, and if they can't offer assistance continue to ask for places that can. I hope you find one that meets your needs.

Where I live the state funding for mental health has been cut pretty bad, so the places that used to offer sliding scale services no longer have the ability to do so. What I ended up doing is calling around to the health centers asking for information on financial aid, and eventually I found someone who led me to my current T. I wish that the info was posted online, but it wasn't here in my state. It only took a hand full of calls, though, and I pay a sliding scale. It was worth the work.
