Last time T told me that if you don't talk to people while looking them in the eye they think you're lying.
oh my gosh! t has never said that to me and i never ever look at him, maybe 2 seconds when tossing him his money...

I figure I've sat in his office for over FOUR HUNDRED hours staring at those things.
i am afraid to know how many hours i have been in t!!!

however, you raise a valid point. consistency. the rug changed, the building, his office, him, the frame has never changed.. it was the couch, the outside color of the building, his carpet... the rest all stayed the same.. thanks

Hmmm... wonder if T would like me to take a pic of her carpet and weird shoes... Hmmm... too neurotic to have noticed her shoes today... dunno if that is good or bad

My T's office is more like a living room than an office - leather sofas (2), leather chair, lots of floor-to-ceiling bookcases, filled with books and "stuff".
t's office is just the opposite. one plant, his desk crammed in a corner, one couch, his chair, another chair, i think???? a couple end tables and that is it. no novelites or toys or sea shells or trinkets... nope, nada, nothing...
weird how different t's have decided to design their offices????

My T's hair is beautiful. I always notice it, but mostly I love her eyes. They're big and expressive. I used to hate eye contact, but with her I'm getting to be the opposite. I don't like when I have to close my eyes in the session, but I do what she tells me. I'm kind of mesmerized by my T.

i have accused her several times of moving them to force me to look at her. once i said, "now I have no where to look. she replied, "you could look at me." i said, "no thanks i prefer the globes!"

Don't know what massage T's floor looks like. When we talk and it gets too close I stare longingly at the table... "can I go yet? can I go yet?"... but she will move into my line of view. One time she even slid her chair up to me, locked my knees between hers and held my head!
Pdoc has hard wood floors... but she has Ansel Adams style photography behind her that I prefer to disappear into.

I did fire one T after our first session for bad carpet... It was 2001 and she had yellow/green shag carpet with a worn in brown hue... NO way was I going to be staring at that for an hour a week! (OK, so didn't really like her either... but shag???)

My T's rug is geometric circle with squares in it. there are 9 squares in it. The colors are soft neutrals with green and tan and some orange I think. I count the colors and the squares a lot. If I really get upset I will cover my face with my hands so she can not look at me. The office has been hard to memorize with all my all my fear but the rug is outstandingly hard to ignore.

I tend to stare at my T's wall hangings when I'm talking about something difficult. When I first started seeing her, I was hyper vigilant about maintaining eye contact, because I needed to be able to read her expressions, and I needed her to see that I was being as honest as I could be. As I got to know my T better and we got in to more difficult stuff, I let the eye contact slip more and more. I still re-establish eye contact after I've finished talking about something painful, because I still feel like I need to be able to read her expressions. For me, not maintaining eye contact is a sign of trusting my T more, rather than less. I don't take my eyes off of people I don't trust, because I always need to be able to read their reactions, so I know how to respond. I trust my T enough to feel like I don't need to be constantly reading her reactions.

just was at ts new office today -- now wall to wall grey carpet with navy blue IL markings all over it and almost pumpkin colored walls - odd -- she has a couch in place of the love seat which is now in an outer office - i almost sat on the floor cause i didnt want to sit on the sofa! and her desk was actually clean (but i was the first appt in her new office so......give her a week and it will be back to normal -- the clocks are now all out of easy sight (that sucks)

My T had me look around her office last week because I'm so clueless what it looks like. I do know there's a bookcase across from me where I look when I need to concentrate and can't look at T while I'm thinking deeply. I'm so in my head that I even told her last week that I forget what she looks like. I'm the least attentive person I know about my physical surroundings. That's why she's having me practice mindfulness. I'm sure she's never met anyone like me who walks through life blind.

Do not be so sure about that, when she taught me grounding stuff for the first time I called her wall color brown and when I became aware it was actually a light tan with a golden hue. I jumped when I saw the couch for the first time after 8 sessions. And I think pdoc got a new chair because I do not remember being able to swivel the chair before last time. So each time I go into either office I think remember at least one detail. The purple blanket has my attention that hangs over the back of T's desk chair. I want to touch it and ask why it is there. I saw toys once. So you are not alone.

In my T's office she has this long desk type thing along the wall by where she sits. It has pictures, the plaque I gave her for Christmas and other books.

I used to watch her computer but she has closed her laptop when I am in her office. I don't know if it is always closed when she has other clients in with her or not. She has pictures of her grandkids on her computer.

In my pdoc's office I look at the pictures on his wall.
