My T just told me that I have to have a mandatory physical exam b/c of my bulimia. Its needed for them (the school's therapists) to decide if they will keep seeing me on an outpatient (instead of me needing inpatient). I didnt know they could require that. Has anyone else had this happen?

It used to be "standard" before any serious psychotherapy (years ago.) Usually it was to rule out any physical cause of the psychological distress. Since you already have a physical issue, having an MD on your support team can be a good thing, and help you reach success.

when i first started seeing my t she insisted that i get a thorough physical exam before she would continue to see me. they just don't want you to be in physical danger. please get the help you need both physically and emotionally. good luck. i hope it works out well for you.

My psychiatrist literally saved my life recently by ordering some bloodwork to rule out a physical cause of my extreme tiredness. I ended up spending 36 days in the hospital, 14 of them near death (seriously), but my primary care guy missed it completely. I heartily recommend having a COMPETENT :-) MD on your team!

I have check ups with my primary physician every 6 months. Its a med check but it iscomplete with weight and bloodwork to insure all blood counts and weight are where they are supposed to be, no cancer cells present and an assessment as to if I need to go back on antidepressants again. so far cancer has been in remission for going on 3 years, my anerexia is being held in check. I am losing weight on my diet plan but at a rate that he is comfortable with as long as I don't go below a certain weight.

It makes sense. The therapist needs to know if he's using the right kind of treatment.
